Forget the difference, enjoy the diversity

Valmaura campo di calcioAs already mentioned in a previous post, the red houses is the nickname of a public housing complex in Trieste, in the Valmaura neighborhood. Pollution, urban decay and various social problems affect the 761 residents who sometimes feel they have been left in the lurch.
The best way to help these people is to do something practical and tangible for them and together with them. This is exactly what happened last Saturday morning, when a group of volunteers worked hard to clean up the outside area of the complex, paying particular attention to the gardens, the underpasses, the corridors and the staircases.
Armed with with gloves, broomsticks and dustbins, they filled up more than 20 garbage bags with plastic, leaves, iron and carbon dust, and other materials, in less than three hours.
Organized by Trieste Green, in collaboration with Habitat Microarea Valmaura, ICS, Duemilauno-Agenzia sociale, the event involved 30 people of different nationalities (volunteers, social workers, residents).
It was really inspirational to me as it showed that, regardless of their nationality, traditions and social status, people can come together, work together, respect each other, forget the difference and enjoy the diversity.
